High precision glass optics with complex shapes are key components of many new products used in a number of industrial sectors. They are used, for example, in lighting technology, the automotive industry, laser technology and renewable energies, where the demand for complex yet cost-effective glass components is growing. The trend towards ever more complex geometries combined with falling market prices presents companies with major challenges. At the Fraunhofer IPT, we are researching different types of forming for the efficient production of complex geometries. We are also active in the fields of simulation and tool coating.
