Inline process control and monitoring for laser machines

Process monitoring and process control are of central importance for the production and testing of precision components. At the Fraunhofer IPT, we develop solutions for direct process monitoring in the laser machine. Our measurement systems based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) enable component and process monitoring without having to remove the workpiece or influence the actual machining process. This enables 3D characterization of workpieces and at the same time creates new possibilities for process data acquisition.

About the seminar

In this free online seminar, we will show you how to use OCT in laser welding processes based on selected application examples: for adaptive focus positioning, for topological structure recognition and for tomographic detection of welds. In addition, the possibilities of data acquisition and evaluation strategies before, after or in the process will be discussed and a direct transfer into a process loop will be presented. This includes the use of process control applications and the possibilities of obtaining new process data, e.g. for AI applications or process optimization. In a further step, we will show you how to use the measuring system for positioning workpieces or process meter monitoring. Furthermore, we will discuss the possibilities of integrating the OCT into an existing process machine as well as tabletop solutions and present the possibilities and challenges of machine integration and synchronization. An overview of process-independent control of the measurement system or quality assurance through advanced image processing and the use of artificial intelligence for structure recognition will round off the information on the use of OCT.

Finally, all participants will have the opportunity to ask individual questions. In addition, the speakers will also be available after the seminar as contact persons for in-depth questions.
