Industrial 5G – Experience and knowledge out of two years 5G research testbed
5G, the fifth generation of mobile communication, promises to change industry to a networked, digitalized and adaptive system. With low latency, high reliability and the possibility for high data throughput, 5G enables wireless automation even for time critical scenarios.
At the Fraunhofer IPT, we have been working intensively on 5G in an industrial context since 2019. The unique infrastructure of the 5G-Industry Campus Europe, an outdoor network of about one square kilometer and 7000 square meters of production area, allows us to perform and test numerous industrial use cases. These include various scenarios, such as monitoring and controlling highly complex manufacturing processes or cross-location production chains. In further projects, such as 5G-Audit, we broke down our findings and offer counseling on how to implement 5G for your company.
About the seminar
The online seminar provides an overview of the current state of 5G technology in the industrial context. It shares the knowledge we have gathered in the past three years of intensely working with 5G. This includes the industrial use cases in practice and architecture or integration options for existing machines as well as giving an insight into our current research projects. Beside the presentation of best practice examples, we show the challenges but also the opportunities of 5G technology.
Afterwards, the participants will have the opportunity to ask individually questions. The online seminar will be conducted on Microsoft teams.
