Aachen Machine Tool Colloquium – AWK'21

Turning Data into Sustainability – Securing Future Competitiveness by Sustainable and Resilient Production

With the effects of the Corona pandemic hitting many manufacturing companies and changing the global economy in the long term, once again trend-setting questions are arising around the future of production technology: What is the value of the variety of recorded data for manufacturing companies today? How can algorithms and analyses be used to make reliable forecasts in order to gain end-to-end control over production and thus be able to operate efficiently and profitably as well as sustainably? How can German and European companies remain competitive in the long term?

Under the new guiding theme of “Turning Data into Sustainability”, the 30th AWK on September 22 and 23, 2021 will show how manufacturing companies can use on-demand data collection and machine learning to achieve rapid, error-free improvements in serial production, and how they can thereby produce in a resilient and sustainable manner. The aim is to enable them to deal successfully with drastic crises and to be able to operate profitably again in a short time. At the same time, the entrepreneurial view of the future is to be sharpened so that the production turnaround towards sustainable productivity can be accomplished. Due to the changed requirements of the capital market, from a purely financial orientation to a holistic view of sustainability, the concept of productivity must be redefined. The Aachen model of the Internet of Production (IoP) can support this process towards a sustainable and emission-free production of the future.
