Dr.-Ing. Tim Grunwald
Tim Grunwald studied mechanical engineering in the bachelor's program and switched to the automation technology program in the subsequent master's program, which he completed in 2016 with a master's thesis on "Process development of a hot forming process for the production of three-dimensional glass-silicon composites" at RWTH Aachen University.
In May 2016, Tim Grunwald started as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer IPT, working on forming processes for glass and quartz glass for microelectronic applications. One year later, he took over as head of the "Optics" group. Since February 2019, he is head of the department "Fine Machining and Optics”.
Tim Grunwald wrote his dissertation on the topic of " Modeling of Tool Wear during Fused Silica Molding". In May 2021, he received his doctorate in engineering.
In addition to his management and research activities at the Fraunhofer IPT, Tim Grunwald holds the lectureships for the courses "High Precision Glass Optics Manufacturing" and "Ultra Precision Technology I" at RWTH Aachen University.
