Fraunhofer to set up a community for the development of applications and technologies Industrie 4.0
For the past two years, the three Fraunhofer Institutes in Aachen have been working alongside other experts from industry and research in the Fraunhofer High Performance Center for "Networked, Adaptive Production" to identify new approaches to digitalization and networks which will help pave the way for a successful transition to Industrie 4.0. On 25 April 2018 at 16.00, the institutes will declare the "International Center for Networked, Adaptive Production", ICNAP, open for business and will be keen to welcome additional partners into the Community. The official opening ceremony, which will include talks to be given by representatives from the three institutes as well as from industrial partners such as Ericsson GmbH, Kuka Industries GmbH and MTU Aero Engines AG is free of charge for visitors to the fair and takes place at the joint Fraunhofer booth in Hall 2, Booth C22.
The three Fraunhofer Institutes for Production Technology IPT, for Laser Technology ILT and for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME plan to team up with the RWTH Aachen University and with renowned industrial partners to develop production systems and supply chains in line with Industrie 4.0 and to test their suitability for industrial applications on the basis of specific production tasks. Along with their partners, the institutes will explore various means of raising forecasting efficiency within adaptive process chains and areas of application for the digital twin and big data analytics in the production environment in five pilot lines in various sectors.
Access to networked machinery with a 5G connection
Membership in the moderated research community gives companies access to the results of fundamental and practical results of research and development: They benefit not only from the data released from production and manufacturing processes as well as from the relevant software developments available to them for test purposes but also have access to the sophisticated, fully networked infrastructures maintained by the Institutes involved. State-of-the-art sensor systems, 5G data transfer and access to the Fraunhofer-Cloud "Virtual Fort Knox" are already available and will be fully integrated within the test environment.
Membership of the Community also provides companies with the opportunity to help shape selected development projects focusing on networked, adaptive production with other pioneers of Industrie 4.0 and to share ideas and experience with companies and scientists at the IT-production technology interface
The sponsored Research Community fosters exchange of ideas relating to experience with Industrie 4.0
The International Center for Networked, Adaptive Production is the result of an initiative of the German Federal State of North Rhine Westphalia and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft with considerable support from industry which was set up in Aachen as the Fraunhofer High Performance Center for "Networked, Adaptive Production" at the end of the year 2016 with a budget totaling 6.4 million Euro. The mission of the High Performance Center is to design an open research platform and test environment where industrial companies can explore and test new concepts for digitalized production in a sophisticated environment mirroring industrial practice. Highly successful partners from the sectors including IT system providers, plant and equipment manufacturers and manufacturing companies have already committed to contributing to further collaborative work.
