Introduction to virtualization & containerization for industrial production

The use of edge and cloud devices in production continues to grow, especially for monitoring machines and processes, and for subsequent production optimization. Intelligent sensor technology, tools for data analysis and machine learning applications can be connected and used comparatively cost-effectively with existing corporate IT through such devices. In order to be able to use these systems as flexibly and efficiently as possible, the concept of virtualization has become established in information technology. Virtualization allows uniform hardware to be used for a wide range of applications. In addition, virtualization also enables the development, updating and upgrading of uniform software. Overall, virtualization leads to significantly shorter development times, more stable and maintainable system operation, and a large potential for hardware savings through standardization.

This online seminar will give you insights into different approaches to virtualization: virtual machines, Kubernetes, containers and Kata containers. You will learn about concrete use cases in industrial production and the respective architectures. Finally, all participants will have the opportunity to ask individual questions. In addition, you will receive the presentation slides or a script with equivalent content after completion of the online session.
