AI-powered robots can address industrial tasks that currently remain hard to automate. However, the emerging market is accompanied by considerable technology hype and inflated expectations, making it difficult to assess the actual potential of AI-powered robots in industrial environments.
The white paper “AI-Powered Robots in Industry – A Reality Check on the Status Quo” examines the near-term industrial potential of AI-powered robots. The four-month study mapped more than 240 companies, including AI-powered robot manufacturers, software developers and component manufacturers across Europe, North America and Asia. It examines how the global market is evolving and assesses the industrial readiness of potential solutions.
The results show that industrial value can emerge before general-purpose autonomy fully arrives. In particular, AI-powered cobots and mobile manipulators may offer near-term added value for industrial tasks, while the industrial validation of humanoids is currently limited to pilot projects and demonstrations. The white paper also shows how manufacturing companies can prepare for future deployment by assessing their readiness, investigating value-adding use cases and preparing near-term pilots with clear milestones for industrialization.
