CE conformity with the new Machinery Directive 2023/1230

The new Machinery Directive 2023/1230 offers several changes regarding the CE certification: For example, digital technologies are included as new risks and the obligation to provide paper documentation is reduced. The assessment of high-risk machinery is significantly adapted. The aim of the new directive is to identify and minimize risks in a digital production. However, this raised new obligations for manufacturers and operators.

Obligation also for operators

Changes to machines - whether physical or digital - often occur in companies. In the future this cannot be done without updating the necessary CE documents. The Machinery Directive 2023/1230, which comes into force in January 2027, also requires operators to issue and maintain CE documents.

How can this be implemented in a legally compliant and efficient manner? Identifying risks and follow the guidelines require in-depth knowledge of the process but also the required types of documents. This is where the Fraunhofer IPT comes in: with practical training and individual support, we work with you to develop procedures that are applicable and have minimal influence on the value-adding processes.

Controlling the risk - across all phases

Modifications to existing machines and systems pose challenges for operators: Updating the risk analyses in accordance with DIN 12100 is an obligation to provide evidence of risk management. The risk analyses must be documented in all phases of a machine's life cycle. We support you in the process, starting even in the design and construction phase. Because if you identify risks at an early stage, you can save time on costly subsequent adjustments. Whether dead man's switch, emergency stop switches or calculation of the functional safety of machine controls in accordance with DIN 13489/1: we are the partners for your safety-related tasks relating to CE certification.

We support you in researching relevant standards and how to be compliant when issuing the CE declaration of conformity. This also includes cybersecurity standards when integrating new interfaces or data transmissions.

As a scientific institution, we are a neutral partner for you and offer a final validation that proves that you have identified all safety-related aspects and recorded them in accordance with the standard.

CE conformity put into practice with the Fraunhofer IPT

  • We support you with modifications to existing machines - physical and digital - from conceptual design and construction to validation and assessment.
  • We support you in the preparation of risk analyses, selection of safety devices such as dead man's switches or emergency stop switches.
  • As an independent institution, we support manufacturers and operators in the legally compliant implementation of documents, including research of relevant standards or calculation of functional safety of machine controls in accordance with DIN 13489/1

With our many years of experience in technical development and innovation, we also have the right strategies for your company to ensure regulatory compliance and efficiently put machines (back) into operation. This allows you to comply with legal requirements and maintain the overview.
