Topic day 1: Systems and mechanical engineering – improving productions processe
The "fourth industrial revolution" is characterized by digitalization and networking. Autonomous and self-optimizing production machines with intelligent products are increasingly being networked with one another and will form the benchmark against which companies will measure themselves in the highly competitive global market. That is why we are developing solutions for information technology and cooperating with companies from industry in order to be able to offer practical research results for digital change.
On topic day 1 of the Fraunhofer Solution Days 2020, we will therefore be focusing on the mobile phone standard 5G. With the largest industrial 5G research network in Europe, we want to conduct practical research together with the Swedish mobile network supplier Ericsson into the areas of application of the new mobile technology in production.
In a presentation at the digital Fraunhofer Solution Days on October 26, 2020, Niels König from Fraunhofer IPT and Wolfgang Tonutti from Ericcson Germany will introduce our 5G-Industry Campus Europe.

Topic day 4: The mobility economy – a driving force for tomorrow
The energy and mobility turnaround affects all sectors of the economy. Electricity storage systems are becoming enormously important for industry, and the pressure on the mobility industry to achieve low emissions is increasing. The demand for electric cars is growing worldwide, and in the aviation industry - not least in view of climate change - optimizing the resource balance is becoming increasingly important.
On topic day 4 of the Fraunhofer Solution Days 2020, we offer our visitors an insight into the battery cell research production at the Münster site, whose goal is to transfer current research results on battery production into applications. We will also be presenting the state of development in the industrial production of fuel cells and pressure tanks for hydrogen stroage. In addition, you will gain information on the current state of research on the resource balance of components for aircraft engines at the Fraunhofer Aviation booth.
Dr. Christoph Baum, Managing Director of the Fraunhofer IPT, will be giving a presentation on October 29, 2020, explaining the role of batteries and fuel cells in the development of mobility and the manufacturing challenges on the way to mass production of these two energy storage devices.
