Optical coherence tomography for non-destructive testing

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has so far found its application mainly in non-contact biomedical diagnostics. The measurement method, which is based on short-coherent interferometry, allows the diagnosis of the fundus of the eye within seconds using high-resolution cross-sectional images or the volumetric imaging and differentiation of tissue layers. The enormous advantages of OCT can also be exploited in multiple applications within industrial production. We at the Fraunhofer IPT have explored and developed the potential of OCT outside of biomedical diagnostics within numerous research and industrial projects. Whether it is the high-resolution measurement of thin layers in the printing industry or the inline integration of OCT for coaxial process monitoring of laser processes - the adaptability of OCT leaves hardly any question unanswered. (Partially) transparent materials such as plastics, foils, lacquers, etc. allow insight into deeper layers and thus the inspection of application quantities, the detection of air inclusions or other defects. In metal processing, surface features and shape deviations can be revealed in the process.

About the seminar

The free online seminar provides insights into various application areas of OCT in industry. In particular, about the development of a high-resolution OCT system for thin films and the application of OCT for additive and subtractive manufacturing.

Finally, all participants will have the opportunity to ask individual questions. Additionally, upon completion of the online session, you will receive the presentation slides used or an equivalent content document as a script.

The online seminar is conducted on Microsoft Teams.
