Mechatronic Systems Design

Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology

Mechatronik

Our "Fraunhofer Project Group Mechatronic Systems Design" in Paderborn is equipped with outstanding competencies in the field of "intelligent technical systems", with a focus on the design of mechatronic systems and the design of the relevant production systems. Bearing the demands of the market in mind, we help companies to make the change to mechatronics and to develop and implement innovative products.

The area of "Mechatronic systems design" is divided in:

Product engineering

We develop methods and tools for the market-oriented and cost-effective development of mechatronic products. Work on this topic covers the entire process – from the original product or business idea to the start of series production.

Control engineering

We develop modern, highly efficient mechatronic products that incorporate intelligent designs. As modern mechatronic systems become increasingly complex, the interaction between different parts of a system becomes increasingly important. The integration of mechanics, hydraulics, electronics and control technology is only possible through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach: this is where model-based design methods come into play.

Software engineering

Here, we develop processes, methods and tools for the development of high quality embedded software for tomorrow’s mechatronic systems. Software is increasingly permeating into technical systems such as production processes, telecommunications, our transport systems or medical technology: the mechatronic system functions of the future will be software-based.
