Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology

Our locations – local, regional, international

Aachen is one of the most important centers of production technology. The Fraunhofer IPT also provides its research and development services through other locations in Germany and abroad.

In Aachen, we cooperate closely on all our topics with the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at the RWTH Aachen, whose four senior professors are also the directors of the Fraunhofer IPT. In Aachen, the Fraunhofer IPT employs a staff of around 380 to work on current projects in our 6000 m² facilities. Laboratories and machine shops account for 3500 m² of this space.
We are located at the heart of the RWTH Aachen Campus – right next door to the Fraunhofer Institutes for Laser Technology ILT and for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME, as well as to numerous other RWTH Aachen University institutes. We already have an extensive pool of knowledge at our disposal and, thanks to our close network within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, strong contacts to the university and numerous regional and national industrial and research partners, we are always the right port of call for interdisciplinary issues and current challenges in the field of production technology.

Paderborn

The Fraunhofer project group for Mechatronic Systems Design in Paderborn as a part of the Fraunhofer IPT develops mechatronic systems for control technology, software technology and product planning.

The project group is extremely competent in the field of “Intelligent Technical Systems”. Bearing market demands in mind, we help companies to make the change to mechatronic technology, and to develop and realize innovative products.

Boston/USA

We provide our services to international clients based in the USA via the Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation CMI in Boston. The Fraunhofer CMI works closely with the Fraunhofer IPT. We are able to offer our clients both on-the-spot production technology research and development services and long-term technology transfer between European and American industries.

Our services include the design and development of automation equipment, the development of assembly and adjustment systems for microsystems, process optimization, new developments and design for precision and micro technology, life sciences and product development and prototype manufacture.
