Technology management
Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology
Companies that intend to establish themselves successfully – and permanently – on a competitive market, will need to apply their technologies wisely. In an era of shortening market life cycles and stiffening global competition, this means that only those companies have a chance of survival which can develop, explore and apply technologies that meet the specific requirements of each of their customers – and which also have the foresight and the resources to replace these technologies in time.
We provide you with support on all issues related to technology management - from development and purchasing to final implementation.
The area of Technology management is divided into the following departments:
Technology forecasting and technology planning
The capacity of implementing technological change rapidly is becoming an ever more crucial condition for the successful operation of a business. Sophisticated technology management structures have long ceased to be a luxury. For this purpose it is necessary to build, nurture and protect technology skills and complement them with management skills. Technology intelligence, technology strategy, technology know-how, technology planning and technology assessment systems must be implemented and reinforced with appropriate processes and structures to establish an efficient technology management.
Technology acquisition
Many enterprises continue to see sourcing as a mere supportive function, “just filling order forms”, which only exists to feed the supply lines to the production department. Nevertheless, the strategic importance of the sourcing department still remains unrecognized by many enterprises. At a time, however, when the technological complexity of the sourced goods is steadily increasing in a global environment, sourcing is attributed a special importance. The sourcing department has a strategic cross-divisional function, which, combines with a continuous development, opens up unimagined potentials. Interaction of production, marketing and development opens thereby so far unused changes to the department.
